How to Update the MOTIF series Operating System

Note: Before you go through the following steps, copy the downloaded OS Data (.PGM) onto a 8MB or higher Smart Media card. There should be no other data on the Smart Media card.

1. Turn off the Motif’s power.

2. Insert the Smart Media card containing the OS data into the Motif’s card slot on the rear panel .

3. Turn on the power while pressing the “REC” and “STORE” buttons. This will display the [MOTIF6,7,8 OS Updater] screen.

Note:

At the bottom of the LCD , the display will now say :

[Insert card including only one PGM file ,and press ENTER to load. Or play in Standard MIDI file including the KERNEL SysEx Data].

This does not mean that the Motif can be updated through MIDI. A full OS update of MOTIF (not just the Kernel) can only performed from a Smart Media card.

4. Press “ENTER” button to start loading from Smart media.

Loading will take approximately 2 minutes.

Note:

DO NOT turn off the Motif’s power, remove the smart media or operate any buttons or keys while in the process of updating.

When [Completed. Reboot MOTIF6,7,8] appears on the screen, the update is completed. However it is recommended that you do a factory reset after updating.

5. Turn off the power.

7. To return the unit to its factory settings, turn on the power while pressing the “REMOTE” and the “REC” buttons to display the [MOTIFx Test Program] screen. *Note: DO NOT release the “REMOTE” and “REC” buttons until the screen appears, as it takes several seconds.

Confirm that [firm Ver: 1.40] appears in the upper portion of the LCD

8. Press the “STORE” button.

Factory ReSet runs and the data is set back to the factory default settings.

9. Press “YES” button to exit the Test Program.
