NETGEAR WAC510 Access Point Firmware 8.2.1.16

New Features and Enhancements:

- Instant Captive Portal Support: Allow guest users to access WiFi after authenticating with one of the login methods listed below. This feature is available as a separate subscription for NETGEAR Insight subscribers. Sign in using Facebook, Twitter, or LinkedIn account, or register and then sign in with an email address.
- External Captive Portal Support (Beta Version): Allows any third-party Captive Portal solution to be integrated with your NETGEAR access point. This feature is supported only when the access point is operating in standalone mode: Device Auto re-claim support from Insight App / Cloud portal, Speed Test support from Insight App / Cloud portal, or Scheduled On / Off WiFi networks from Insight App / Cloud portal

Security Fixes:

- Fix for PSV-2019-0086: prevents decryption of the Admin user's password and Wireless keys from the WAC505 backup configuration file.
- Fix for PSV-2019-0176: prevents attacker to execute an arbitrary command such as "reboot" or "telnetd" using WAC505 or WAC510 backup configuration file.

Bug Fixes:

- Requires the default admin password to be set to a unique password for compliance with California Privacy Law
- AES 256-bit encryption for WIFI/RADIUS credentials
- Admin and User password now stored as salted hash
- Removed sensitive data from the debug logs
- Encrypted configuration backup file
- Removed default credentials from default configuration

Known Issues:

- Some clients may not show the pop-up login screen when connected to the Instant Captive Portal SSID. Workaround: Use a browser to go to the captive portal authentication page.
- Some special characters are not supported in Instant Captive Portal SSIDs. Workaround: We recommended you avoid using special characters in the SSID name.
- While using the Facebook Wi-Fi feature, some iOS devices and Android devices might not display the Facebook Authentication page automatically. Workaround: The user must launch a web browser to display the Facebook Authentication page.
- After updating to a newer firmware version, the latest web management interface changes may not show. Workaround: Clear the web browser cache. 

About Access Point Firmware:

If you update the Access Point (AP) firmware, your device can benefit from changes that fix multiple issues encountered by wireless clients, correct different user interface problems, add various functionalities, and include support for newly developed protocols.

Before performing this task, we recommend that you read and understand all the installation steps, because there are many AP models and manufacturers available. Each producer strives to make the procedure as simple as possible, but there are cases when it's anything but that.

It is also advisable that you apply a new access point firmware in a steady power environment (UPS unit will satisfy this need), using an Ethernet cable rather than a wireless connection. The latter can be easily interrupted.
