Linksys WRT610N V1 Router LEDE Firmware 17.01.0

Installing LEDE over Factory Firmware

Use this procedure if you want to install LEDE on a router running the “factory firmware” that it shipped with:

- The Device Page or Device Techdata page should have a link to an image for a “factory installation.”

- Download that file (called an image file) to your computer.

- Connect directly to the device via an Ethernet cable, if you haven't already done this. Do not use a Wi-Fi (wireless) connection, because it makes the flashing process less reliable.

- Log into the device's web interface.

- Locate the page for installing new firmware. This varies by vendor: follow the instructions for reloading/installing firmware in the manufacturer's user guide.

- Follow the manufacturer's instructions for transferring/uploading/sending the image file to the router.

- Wait while the router accepts the firmware image, burns it into its flash memory, and then reboots. This can take several minutes: the Device Page may state an expected time for this process.

- Congratulations! The new firmware has been installed.

Installing LEDE Sysupgrade

A sysupgrade erases internal memory, only configuration files are preserved.

You must install again all the packages you installed before the sysupgrade, also enable them again if they added system services.

After a sysupgrade you can restore the setting backup file you generated before the upgrade from Luci's System → Backup/Flash Firmware page.

Use this procedure if you want to install LEDE on a router that is already running LEDE or OpenWrt:

- Log into the device's web interface.

Go to the System → Backup/Flash Firmware page.

- Optional, but highly recommended: This is a good time to make a backup of the settings. It makes it easier to revert to the previous state. Click “Generate Archive” to save them on your computer.

- Decide what to do with the “Keep Settings” checkbox

- Optional, if you have custom configurations outside /etc/config : Go to System > Backup/Flash Firmware > Configuration tab. This will allow you to add your custom configuration files to the /etc/sysupgrade.conf file that is read by sysupgrade when it is backing up files. Click “Submit” when done editing.

- To view all the configuration files that will be saved on an upgrade, click the “Open list…” button.

- In the Flash new firmware image section, click “Choose file” to select the image file. Click “Flash image…”

- You will see a “Flash Firmware - Verify“ page which includes information about the image file you are about to install.

- Check that the SHA256sum of the file in the device matches the SHA256 of the file you downloaded and the one in the sha256sums file.

- If it matches, everything is OK, click “Proceed”.

- If it does not match go back and try again, either with the same or with a new image file. DO NOT proceed if the SHA256sums differ, as that's a corrupt file and will likely brick your device.

- You will see “System - Flashing …” along with a spinning wheel and “Waiting for changes to be applied…” It can take several minutes while the router accepts the firmware image, writes it into its internal memory, and then reboots

- Congratulations! The new firmware has been installed

About Router Firmware:

Before you consider downloading this firmware, go to the system information page of the router and make sure that the currently installed version isn’t either newer or matching this release.

Due to the large variety of router models and different methods for upgrading the device, it is highly recommended that you read and, above all, understand the installation steps before you apply the new firmware, even if you are a power user.

In theory, these steps shouldn’t be much of a hassle for anyone, because manufacturers try to make them as easy as possible, even if they don’t always succeed. Basically, you must upload the new firmware to the router through its administration page and allow it to upgrade.

If you install a new version, you can expect increased security levels, different vulnerability issues to be resolved, improved overall performance and transfer speeds, enhanced compatibility with other devices, added support for newly developed technologies, as well as several other changes.

If you’re looking for certain safety measures, remember that it would be best if you perform the upload using an Ethernet cable rather than a wireless connection, which can be interrupted easily. Also, make sure you don’t power off the router or use its buttons during the installation, if you wish avoid any malfunctions.

If this firmware meets your current needs, get the desired version and apply it to your router unit; if not, check with our website as often as possible so that you don’t miss the update that will improve your device.
