D-Link DNS-320 Rev.B1B2 NAS Alt-F Firmware 0.1 RC4.1

The DNS-320L/LW-rev-Ax and the DNS-320-rev-Bx support is now complete. The circuit boards for the DNS-320L-rev-Ax and DNS-320-rev-Bx are identical apart from a smaller amount of memory in the DNS-320-rev-Bx, so any of them can use the other firmware.

If you are running the vendor's firmware you don't have to follow the bellow described procedure. If however you have flashed 0.1RC4 or the experimental releases and applied any fix or patch, you have to manually removed them before upgrading.

In the future this will happens automatically when upgrading, but for now you have to save and execute a file in the box. Rolling fixes back might not work as expected. You also have to disable the "boot user script" if you are using it to apply any fix or patch to the DNS-320-rev-Bx or to the 320L/LW-rev-Ax boxes.

Create a file with the text between the two '-----------' lines below, being sure that #!/bin/sh is at the file first line and column. Then telnet or ssh the box and login as the 'root' user using the same password as in the webUI and execute it by typing in the command line:

dos2unix /path/to/saved/file

sh /path/to/saved/file

NOTE:

- Reboot the box before performing any upgrade.

- Save current settings to a desktop computer (System->Settings, in the

"Computer Disk" section, "Save current settings to file" hit the Download button)

- Look at the box bottom attached label to see its hardware revision level, then select the appropriate Alt-F-0.1RC5 bin file and use the normal firmware upgrade method to flash it.

For example, the Alt-F-0.1RC5-DNS-320-rev-Ax.bin file is to be used on the DNS-320 on any rev-A1, A2 or A3 box. Don't try to flash firmware if your box is not supported.

About Network-Attached Storage Updates:

Upgrading the Network-Attached Storage (NAS) firmware can improve the system’s overall performance, stability, and security by adding various fixes for related issues, enhancing existing features (or adding support for new ones), or updating different applications.

Due to the high number of NAS manufacturers, as well as network storage types, installing a new firmware might not be always as easy as it appears – and not too safe either. Failing to perform a software update can cause serious malfunctions to the network storage.

So, before you even consider applying this release, carefully read the installation guide and initiate the process only when you have understood and completely familiarized yourself with all the steps.

Moreover, it would be best if you take into account using a UPS unit (Uninterruptible Power Supply) to perform this task, because no power disruption should affect the upgrade.

With all these aspects in mind, after you have read the installation guide, click the download button to apply this firmware version to your NAS. Remember to check back with our website in order to stay up to speed with the latest releases.
