Buffalo TS3410RN NAS Firmware 5.72 for macOS

Added and Modified Features:

- [SMB]: Now supports SMB signing.
- [AFP]: AppleDouble format is now selectable. If using AFP, we recommend backing up data before updating to this firmware version. After updating the firmware, make sure you have confirmed the format before use. Select “appledouble = v2” if the firmware has been updated from version 5.16 and earlier. If it was updated from version 5.34 and later, select “appledouble = ea”.
- [Microsoft OneDrive Sync]: Modified so that new status texts are added when synchronization is unavailable.
- [IP Address]: NIC offload setting is now available.
- [Backup]: Modified to add an option to change the process speed during backup.
- [Migration]: Modified to add an option in case a filename exceeds 255 bytes.
- [System]: The ineffective SSH encryption algorithms have been disabled.

Bug Fixes:

- [SMB]: Modified to patch vulnerabilities (CVE-2005-3595, CVE-2000-0222, CVE-1999-0506, CVE-1999-0505, CVE-1999-0504, and CVE-1999-0503).
- [SFTP]: Fixed a bug where group access restrictions did not work properly when accessing via SFTP.
- [NFS]: Fixed a bug where if the NFS function was disabled but the settings were not cleared, the TeraStation remained accessible from an NFS client after the unit was restarted.
- [Drives]: Fixed a bug where the info LED wasn’t extinguished even after the TeraStation shut down automatically due to a drive used on a RAID array failed.
- [Drives]: Fixed a bug where errors or messages for any issues detected during TeraStation boot up did not appear.
- [LVM]: Fixed a bug where the I65 message appeared for an iSCSI volume which was created on the area while LVM was enabled.

How to Use the Updater:

1. Connect the TeraStation properly and configure the TeraStation and a computer to run the updater on the same network subnet. The subnet masks should be the same and the first three numbers of the IP addresses should be the same. The last number of the IP addresses should be different.
For example, if the IP address and subnet mask of the computer are
" 192.168.0.10 , 255.255.255.0 "
and the IP address and subnet mask of the TeraStation are
" 192.168.1.150 , 255.255.255.0 "
then the updater will _not_ work properly.
In this case, reconfigure the TeraStation's IP address and subnet mask to
" 192.168.0.150 , 255.255.255.0 ".
Then they will be on the same subnet and the updater will work properly.
2. Close all applications. Also, stop or exit any firewall software.
3. Extract the downloaded file and run "TSUpdater.exe". When a TeraStation is detected, an update window will open.
4. Select the TeraStation to update if multiple TeraStation are connected.
5. Click "Update" and enter the TeraStation's admin password.
6. Click "OK".
7. Transferring and updating the firmware will start. Wait until it finishes. The info LED will blink during the update.
8. When the update finishes, a message will be displayed.

Updating Firmware:

- Do not turn off the TeraStation until the firmware update is completed and the “Finished” message appears.
- Disconnect iSCSI volumes using the iSCSI initiator before updating the firmware.
- If you are using firmware version 4.00 and log files were created between updating the firmware to version 4.00 and now, these log files may be deleted when updating the firmware. Make sure you have backed up the necessary log files to a different folder that is not on the TeraStation before updating the firmware.
- If your TeraStation meets the following conditions, the TeraStation may not boot after restarting or updating the firmware: (1) The I70 and I71 information messages appear frequently, (2) The firmware is version 4.00. Although data on the TeraStation will be kept if the issue has already occurred on your TeraStation, there is no way to recover from the issue by yourself. Contact Buffalo technical support for assistance. If the issue hasn’t occurred yet, you may prevent the issue by changing the TeraStation’s log settings. Refer to the procedures below to change file access log settings.
- Delete all existing file access logs. If the log files are necessary, copy them to another location. (Settings > Management > Logs > File Access Logs > Delete > Yes)
- Change the settings to save fewer file access logs. (Settings > Management > Logs > Edit > Change archive rule settings. Units: Size / File Sizes: 100 MB / Versions: 13)

Notes:

- Make sure the TeraStation’s MTU size is set to a value smaller than that of the hub or router. Larger MTU sizes may not allow data to be transferred to the TeraStation properly.
- This firmware will send your usage information to Buffalo automatically. To disable this function, open Settings after updating the firmware to this version, then navigate to ‘Management’ > ‘Update’ > ‘Edit’ and disable “Update Notification”.
- Since firmware version 4.36, saved settings cannot be applied from a USB drive that contains saved settings from a unit that was running firmware version 4.32 or earlier. In such a case, create the settings restoration USB drive again using a unit running firmware version 4.36 or later.
- Do not update the firmware from version 3.11 or earlier to 3.12 or later if the TeraStation is a TS51210RH series model and two UPS devices are connected to it. If the unit has been updated already, reconfigure the UPS settings.
- If you are using firmware version 3.04 or earlier and the backup source or destination folder name contains “%”, that backup job should be reconfigured after updating the firmware to version 3.12 or later.
- If you are using firmware version 4.00 and configure the SMB protocol version to 2.2.2 or higher, the TeraStation may not be accessible from the client devices. In such a case, change the SMB version to 2.1 or lower.
- If settings are initialized with an iSCSI volume that had been created using an LVM-enabled drive or array, that iSCSI volume mode may be displayed as “NAS”, instead of “iSCSI” on the NAS volume list. Even if in such a case, the iSCSI volume remains accessible via the iSCSI initiator.
- If you are using firmware version 5.40 or earlier, data may be erased from OneDrive when renaming or moving folders on OneDrive and OneDrive Sync is enabled on the TeraStation with bidirectional sync mode and either a 1, 5, or 10 minute-sync period configured. Please update the firmware to the latest version.

About HDD Firmware:

Updating the HDD's (Hard Disk Drive) firmware version can fix various problems that might occur, enhance some of the features available or add support for new ones, and improve the unit's overall performance.

However, as this task can be very risky, applying a different firmware is recommended only when the newer version specifically resolves an issue that bothers you, or brings about changes that you can make full use of.

In addition to that, make sure you perform this task only in a steady power environment (such as the one ensured by a UPS unit).

As for the update process, due to the wide variety of HDDs and various methods provided by each manufacturer for installing a new firmware, it would be best if you carefully read and understand the installation steps.

That being said, if you consider updating the HDD to this firmware version, click the download button, and make sure you read the installation guide before initiating the upgrade. Moreover, constantly check with our website to stay up to date with the latest releases.
